个人简介
Isaac Casanovas-Vilar (Canet de Mar, Barcelona, 1980) obtained his degree in Geology by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) in 2002 and finished his doctoral thesis, devoted to the Miocene rodents of the Vallès-Penedès Basin, in the same university in 2007. He has an extensive publication record that comprises 197 contributions: including 60 papers (37 in the first quartile, 21 in the first decile) in journals of the Science Citation Index, as well as 60 additional publications (journal papers and book chapters) and 95 published abstracts (9 in journals of the Science Citation Index), resulting in an H index of 21 (data from Scopus at 27/04/2023). These publications include contributions to the highest-ranked multidisciplinary journals (Science, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, PLoS ONE) as well as some of the most prestigious journals in the fields of biology (eLife, BMC Biology, J. Biogeogr.), anthropology (J. Hum. Evol., Am. J. Phys. Anthropol.) and paleontology (Palaeogeogr., Palaeoeclimatol., Palaeoecol., Pap. Palaeontol., J. Vertbr. Paleontol.). His publications are always centered in fossil rodents but cover a broad array of different methods and topics, from geometric morphometrics to stable isotope analysis, and from traditional systematic paleontology to paleobiodiversity analysis and evolutionary paleoecology. He has participated in 19 funded research projects, and between 2011-2013 has been the principal investigator (PI) of a research project funded by the Spanish Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad devoted to the paleobiology of Iberian Neogene rodents. He is currently the co-PI of a four-year (2021-2024) project funded by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación focussing on the analysis of the paleobiodiversity of the Miocene faunas of the Vallès-Penedès Basin. He has also directed field projects funded by the Departament de Cultura de la Generalitat de Catalunya (2014-2017, 2018-2021, 2022-2025) and the National Geographic Society (2015). His trajectory has been awarded with successive competitive contracts, including a ‘Juan de la Cierva’ research contract (2011-2013) as well as a ‘Ramón y Cajal’ research contract (2014-2019). Furthermore, he has been awarded with an I3 Subprograme research accreditation (2019, Gobierno de España) and a certificate of advanced research (2017, Generalitat de Catalunya) He has an extensive international experience and multiple international collaborations, including the Naturalis Biodiversity Center (Leiden, the Netherlands), the Università degli Studi di Firenze (Florence, Italy) and Harvard University (Cambridge, MA, USA). He has made long and short research stays abroad, particularly in the Università di Firenze and the Naturalis Biodiversity Center. He has also teaching experience as master professor since 2008, having supervised several master theses. He has supervised a finished PhD and is currently supervising other PhD students. In December 2019 he was appointed as junior head of the Paleoecology and Biochronology Research Group of the Institut Català de Paleontologia Miquel Crusafont. His current research interests focus on the study of rodent evolution and phylogeny using methods that combine morphological and molecular data, as well as the analysis of paleobiodiversity dynamics in the Iberian mammal faunas in the context of Miocene climatic changes. Mammal-based paleoenvironmental reconstruction and biostratigraphic dating of European Neogene sites still constitute a significant part of his research. Finally, he keeps publishing basic paleontological research in the field of systematic paleontology, curates the Vallès-Penedès fossil rodent collections and directs major paleontological excavations.
