个人简介
I am a Research Teaching Specialist at Rutgers University, Newark, NJ, USA. I have four years of my postdoctoral fellowship at Division of Molecular Biology and Human Genetics, Stellenbosch University, Cape Town, South Africa. I have extensive experience in molecular biology, diagnostics, and aerobiology of TB. My recent paper comparing Ultra and Xpert in presumptive TB patients in high HIV endemic setting was published in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine. There are other papers in pipeline (peer review and preparation).
I completed my PhD in niche of expert physicians, scientists and biostatisticians at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, India. I spearhead a clinical trial with over a thousand pulmonary TB cases with the smoking habit (published, Scientific Reports). In another study we studied the role of procalcitonin as a useful marker in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) of the cases admitted at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Medicine Department, AIIMS.
I completed my Ph.D from AIIMS (August 2016) studying potential microRNAs in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of pulmonary TB patients. We identified differentially expressed microRNAs (miR-21 and miR142-3p) in PBMCs of pulmonary TB patients compared to healthy controls. We also observed dominance of IFN-γ secreting Th-1 cell lineage (transcription factor T-bet) over IL-4 secreting Th-2 cell lineage (transcription factor GATA-3) after stimulation with M.tb cell lysate.
After finishing my Ph.D, I joined Clinical Mycobacteriology and Epidemiology Unit (CLIME) at Stellenbosch University, Cape Town, South Africa (November 2016-to-October 2020). I worked on the evaluation of rapid molecular diagnostics Xpert MTB/RIF and its predecessor Ultra among TB patients in a high HIV endemic setting. The findings implicate useful modifications to the algorithm to TB diagnostics. This research got published in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine early in 2020 and was cited in WHO guideline on TB diagnostics. Another of my study detected infectious aerosols containing culturable bacilli of mycobacterium tuberculosis through a novel human aerosol chamber (HAC) using Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra, colony-forming units (CFUs) on solid agar and MGIT960 liquid culture (manuscript under preparation).
I was also lead a transcriptomic study identifying 19 DEGs in human monocyte derived macrophages (hMDMs) after infection with different species of Mycobacteria (M. smegmatis, M. bovis BCG and M.tb R179) published in Virulence. In another paper we demonstrate that THP-1 cells are suitable substitutes for hMDMs for in-vitro M.tb infection experiments (published CIMID).
I was involved in the writing and obtained key fundings, manuscripts, case record forms, protocols and checklist for various studies. I also helped in establishing a pipeline of publications (some under peer review and preparation) on diagnostics and aerobiology of TB. I am adept in statistical analysis using R, STATA, and GraphPad prism.
