I began my basic research career in 1996 and discovered that bone destruction in arthritis is attributable to the enhanced expression of osteoclast differentiation factor, RANKL, in 2000
I further studied the regulation of bone metabolism by the immune system by focusing on the control of osteoclast differentiation and revealed the role of immunomodulatory factors including interferons, NFATc1 and immunoglobulin-like receptors in the skeletal system.
Since 2006, I have been organizing the international conference on osteoimmunology.
