Bio
Hirokazu Tahara was born on February 10, 1961. He received the Eng.D. degree in electric rocket research from Osaka University, Osaka, Japan, in 1988.
He became a Research Associate with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering Science, Osaka University, in April 1988, and was promoted to Associate Professor in April 1994. His research interests include spacepropulsion engineering, research and development of various electric thrusters, research on the plasma environment around the spacecraft, interaction between the space plasma or thruster plumes and the spacecraft, and study of material degradation in space. Currently, he is investigating microwave plasma, supersonic direct-current plasma jet, and pulsed magneto-plasma-dynamic arc jet for material processing.
Dr. Tahara is a member of the Institute of Electrical Engineering of Japan, Japan Society of Applied Physics, Japan Society for Aeronautical and Space Sciences, and American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
