个人简介
Himar Fabelo received the Telecommunication Engineering and the master's and PhD degrees in Telecommunication Technologies from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), Spain, in 2013, 2014 and 2019. He achieved the Cum Laude qualification, the International Mention, and the Extraordinary Prize of PhD of 2018/2019. In 2015, he started to work as Project Manager and Researcher in the HELICoiD European Project. In 2017, he obtained the Predoctoral Research Grant of the ULPGC and, in 2019, he achieved the Postdoctoral Orientation Period (POP) contract. In 2021, he started to work as Project Manager and Researcher in the WARIFA European Project, until he achieved, in 2022, the Juan de la Cierva-Formacion postdctoral grant at the Fundación Canaria Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria de Canarias (FIISC). He has published 39 journal papers (21 Q1-JCR, 8 Q2-JCR, 5 Q3-JCR, 3 Q4-JCR and 2 non-JCR) most of them in open access journals, 39 international conference papers, 3 book chapters and 1 international patent (WO2018095516A1-granted). He was invited as Keynote Speaker at the Photonex 2016–HSI Conference. He is member of the Reviewer Board of 11 different journals, such as Nature Scientific Reports, Cancers, IEEE Access, Biomedical Optics Express, etc, and he acted as Scientific Expert for The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (The Netherlands), The Medical Research Council (UK) and The Rosetrees Trust (UK) in the evaluation of grant/awards applications. He has actively participated in 8 research projects and grants. He received the “Robert F. Wagner All-Conference Best Student Paper Award” at the SPIE Medical Imaging 2019 conference, the “Best Demo Night Award” in the DASIP 2016 conference and the “Best Paper Award” in the JCE 2015 conference. He also received the First Prize in the category "PhD’s, Master’s, Degree’s project" of the “Premios Cátedra Telefónica de Investigación, Innovación y Cultura Científica 2019-ULPGC” and also the “V Premios Fundación DISA a la Investigación Biomédica 2019”. Also, in 2022, his PhD student Raquel Leon achieved the “Image-Guided Procedures, Robotic Interventions, and Modeling Paper Award” at the SPIE Medical Imaging 2022 conference. He is also currently acting as Program Chair of the 25th Euromicro Conference on Digital System Design (DSD2022), managing all the organising aspect of this scientific conference. He also lectured 120 hours in official teaching at the ULPGC and obtained the accreditations of “Profesor Contratado Doctor” and “Profesor Ayudante Doctor” by ANECA.
In 2018, he performed a research stay in the Department of Bioengineering at The University of Texas at Dallas (USA), under the supervision of Prof. Baowei Fei, one of the world leaders in the use of hyperspectral imaging (HSI) for medical applications. In collaboration with this group, he published 6 journal papers, 1 book chapter and 4 conference papers. In 2019, he also performed 3 short stays at the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (Spain), Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (Spain) and the University of Pavia (Italy). In collaboration with these groups, he published 14 journal and 14 conference papers. He has performed several international collaborations, co-authoring more than 30 publications with many relevant research institutions (Imperial College London, Eindhoven University of Technology, Karolinska University Hospital, University Hospital of Southampton, UT Southwestern Medical Center, MINES ParisTech, Addenbrookes Hospital, Georgia Institute of Technology, etc.). He led the creation and publication of the first worldwide publicly available In-vivo Hyperspectral Human Brain Cancer Image Database.
Currently, he is pursuing his second PhD in Research in Biomedicine at the ULPGC, with the main goal of applying HSI for a non-contact, non-invasive and in-situ diagnosis of different diseases (mainly cancer) through blood HSI test analysis. He also is currently working in the continuation of the HSI application human brain cancer detection in real-time during neurosurgical operations, collaborating with different international institutions.
Himar Fabelo has co-supervised 14 Degree Final Projects and Master’s Thesis, and he is currently co-supervising 2 PhD Thesis of Raquel León and Antonio Rodriguez at the ULPGC. The total number of citations received according to Scopus is 906 by 512 documents, in the period from 2014 to 2022, and its h-index is 16. According to Google Scholar the total number of citations received in the 2014-2022 period is 1455, and its h index is 20, and the i10 index is 42. He has published 49 conference papers, 3 book chapters, 1 patent and a total of 39 journal papers: 21 Q1-JCR, 8 Q2-JCR, 5 Q3-JCR, 3 Q4-JCR and 2 non-JCR.
