Career Trajectory
Bio
My name is Helen Rosen, 570514-0225. I have completed a PhD in 2011 and have also exams in both the undergraduate and graduate level in the subject of nursing.
I am a registered nurse since 1982 with additional exam within specialized nursing within intensive- and anaesthesia care. My clinical experience is broad and includes; care at nursing home, retirement homes, medical and surgical wards, post-operative care units, intensive care, anaesthesia care and district health care.
I was awarded my PhD 2011 from a Joint PhD Nursing program at the University of Rhode Island (URI), USA and the University of Skövde. Two semesters of the PhD studies were carried out at URI in USA. Furthermore I have experience as a departmental international coordinator at the University of Skövde. My expertise also includes training in supervision with different focus;
- university teaching (pedagogy) at advanced level
- education in research supervision (doctoral students)
- caring science and education with a focus on professional supervision (reflective supervision within nursing)
Starting from September 2002 I had an employment as Lecturer at Högskolan in Skövde, whereof as senior Lecturer during the period 2011-07-0I—2012-07-31. Since 2012-08-01 I work at the department Health promotion in nursing care, Faculty of Medicine, University of Lund, with teaching, tutoring, course coordination and examination in the district nurse program and to some degree within the nursing programs.
My research for my PhD was focused on patients' symptoms, discomfort and impact in everyday life after day surgery. Day surgery offers advantages such as lower costs and fewer hospital-acquired infections. With day surgery the nursing process is moved from the professional to the patient, his/her family or primary care (Rosen 2011, thesis).
A general conclusion was that despite extensive efforts, such as guidelines for pain relief, people frequently suffered long after performed day surgery. The impact of support measures has not been evaluated, for example to which extent people feel they have the support and advice of health care in their self-care. These aspects are the main scope of my future research project; Tonsil surgery self-care and treatment, TONIST.
Other important components of my research activities consist of the following parts: Pain relief in ambulatory care; Telephone Advice; Implementation of a didactic model at a medical ward and Intervention study to reduce the blood pressure of patient with hypertension.
