个人简介
Harry E. Green obtained the degrees of Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Engineering from the University of Adelaide, Adelaide, South Australia in 1957 and 1964, respectively, and the degree of Doctor of Philosophy from the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, in 1968, all in Electrical Engineering. In 2005, he was admitted to the degree of Doctor of Engineering by the University of Adelaide. Since 1995, he has held an adjunct appointment as a Research Professor with the Institute for Telecommunications Research in the University of South Australia. Between 1991 and 1995, he was a Professor in and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Adelaide.
From 1986 to 1991, he was Chief of the High Frequency Radar Division at the Salisbury, South Australia laboratories of the Australian Defence Science & Technology Organisation. His primary responsibility there was supervision of research on the Jin-dalee over-the-horizon radar. During this time, he served for a period as Australian National Leader of the radar sub-group under the umbrella of the Technical Cooperation Program, set up early in the Cold War under an agreement between the governments of Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Between 1972 and 1986, he was a Professor of Electrical Engineering in the University of New South Wales, Canberra, Australia, and at the Australian Defence Force Academy. He earlier held several other nonacademic appointments in the defense and telecommunications areas. His primary research interest has been in applied electromagnetics. Since taking up his current adjunct appointment, he has had a continuing interest in attempts to simplify and improve teaching of the subject.
In 1983, he was elected as IEEE Asia Pacific Regional Director. During this time, he served on the Regional Activities Board, the Transnational Activities Committee, and several other Board committees. He has also served as Chair of the IEER South Australia Section Committee and Chair of the IEEE Australia Council, as well as a number of conference organizing committees, both IEEE related and others. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Australia, and a Chartered Professional Engineer, a Life Senior Member of IEEE, and a member of Sigma Xi. He was awarded a Centennial Medal by IEEE in 1984, the Norman W. V. Hayes Medal by the Institution of Radio and Electronics Engineers, Australia, in 1981, and the John Madsen medal by the Institution of Engineers, Australia, in 1977 and 1998. In 2003, he was awarded a Centenary of Federation Medal by the Commonwealth of Australia for “service to Australia society through engineering and evaluation of environmental policy.” He is listed in Who's Who in Australia and some other similar publications.
