Bio
Hélder Puga is an Assistant Researcher (FCT CEEC-Individual-2017), principal investigator (PI) of two FCT funded projects: “UMtechnology - Ultrasonic-Microcasting Technology for manufacturing of biodegradable magnesium stents” with project reference PTDC|EMS-TEC|3827|2014, and “NHyNUS - Novel Hybrid Ultrasonic-Stirring Casting Process of Nano-Reinforced Lightweight Alloys” with project reference PTDC/EMEEME/30967/2017 e NORTE-0145-FEDER-030967. He is a scientific coordinator of a Co-Promotion project entitled by “U2SCOFEE” and principal investigator (PI) of an ISQ-MaisTec funded project AdvUSMachining: Maquinagem Assistida por Ultrassons. Since 2011, H. Puga is an invited lecturer in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Minho in the Manufacturing, Project and Automation group.
In 2014, H. Puga created an Advanced Materials Processing Techniques group in the Foundry Laboratory (UM), where the main propose is the integration of ultrasonic technology on the conventional Foundry and Machining Technologies, i.e, a forward-thinking R&D approach on the changing/improving conventional processing technologies by other economically sustainable, reliable, environmentally clean. Currently, 4 Ph.D students, 7 Msc students, 4 researchers and 1 collaborator compose this group.
From October of 2015 to December of 2018, he had a Post-doctoral grant founding by FCT (SFRH/BPD/76680/2011) where the focus was the Magnesium biodegradable cast alloys and its techniques of processing. From October of 2012 to September of 2015, he had a Post-doctoral grant founding by FCT SFRH/BPD/76680/2011 where the main focus was the development of advanced manufacturing and processing of components to be used in automotive and aerospace applications, through the integration of different manufacturing approaches.
He has authored/co-authored approximately 50 research papers (h11 index), having several currently under review, besides approximately 40 contributions to national and international conferences. H. Puga was involved in the international scientific committees, organization of symposia sessions, where the focus was to promote a forum to exchange views on the status and future development in Materials and Processing Technologies.
