Bio
The primary focus of Dr. Saposnik’ research is Stroke Outcomes & Decision Neuroscience Research, including 3 levels of intervention: 1) acute stroke care; 2) stroke prevention; and, 3) stroke rehabilitation.
Dr. Saposnik is the principal investigator of several research projects and grants (17), and published nearly 200 peer-reviewed articles.
Dr. Saposnik has established a successful program on Stroke Outcomes Research, which acquired peer-reviewed funding, publications in high-impact journals, collaborations with expert colleagues, and received national and international recognition. To accomplish his research goals, Dr. Saposnik created and leads a National and International network of researchers interested in Stroke Outcomes (www.sorcan.ca).
Some of his contributions to science include: i) the development of a risk stroke score (www.sorcan.ca/iscore), ii) the creation and application of innovative technologies to enhance brain recovery: Pilot-tested implementation of virtual reality (Wii, Tablet PC) showing motor recovery, iii) Advancing Stroke care: evaluation of process measures in Canada, Argentina, Korea & Thailand, iv) Guidelines development: 7 different AHA
guidelines for Stroke management. He also served as an active member of the American Heart Association (AHA) Stroke Oversight Committee involved in overseeing and developing guidelines for stroke care, v) Applying principles from behavioral economics into health care (MS, Stroke).
The impact of Dr. Saposnik’s research has transpired in the last recent reviews on ‘Advances in Health Policy and Outcomes’ and ‘Advances in Stroke Rehabilitation’ (Rudd et al. Stroke 2009; 40;e301-e304, Williams et al. Stroke 2010;41:e77-e80; Goldstein et al. 2012; 43:298-299, Brainin et al. Stroke 2013; 44: 311-313), LANCET (Lancet 2011; 377: May 14), Nature Neurology 2016. Other examples include his active participation in the AHA, international collaborations, and leadership in the new field of neuroeconomics applied to health care.
