Bio
PhD degree from The University of Nottingham - Nottingham Transportation Engineering Centre (NTEC), has been working for more than 5 years in research into recycled asphalt mixtures since his first studies conducted during his master degree by characterising and stabilising RAP for pavement base courses. On his PhD research at University of Nottingham Dr Pires investigated the RAP in order to improve the material properties to maximise the content in recycled mixtures, by exploring the binder activation and developing a mechanical method to characterise the material. Dr Pires has also participated, as a collaborator, in the AllBack2Pave project (Performance prediction WP) and is currently a collaborator in the RILEM TC 264 RAP – TG 5 – Degree of asphalt binder activation.
