Bio
Gudula Rünger is a Full Professor of Computer Science at the Chemnitz University of Technology, Saxony, Germany, since 2000. Her teaching and research areas are parallel computing, programming languages and compilers. She is also the head of the special interest group “Parallel and Distributed Systems” at the Computer Science Department in Chemnitz. Before she was a Professor of “Parallel Computing and Complex Systems” at the University Leipzig, Germany. From 1989 to 1997 she was a senior research assistant at the Computer Science Department at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken, Germany, where she received a Habilitation Degree in Computer Science in 1996. She received a Doctoral Degree in Mathematics from the University of Cologne, Germany, in 1989.
Gudula Rünger’s research interests include parallel and distributed programming, parallel algorithms for scientific applications, software development in science and engineering as well as energy efficiency of sequential and parallel applications. She has participated in the organization or program committees of many conferences in the area of parallel computing. In particular, she is involved in the organization of the IPDPS IEEE International Workshop “Parallel and Distributed Scientific and Engineering Computing”for more than ten years. She has co-authored more than 140 refereed articles published in journals or conference proceedings. Also she is a co-author of books on parallel computing. The most recent one is the book “Parallel Programming – for Multicore and Cluster Systems” 2nd Edition, Springer 2013.
She has participated in several national research projects funded by the DFG , DAAD, BMBF Germany or the EU, e.g. in the cluster of excellence “Energy-efficient Product and Process Innovations in Production Engineering (eniPROD)” funded by the State of Saxony and the EU. A current project is part of a Cluster of excellence within the third round of the Excellence Initiative of the German Federal and State Governments “Merge Technologies for Multifunctional Lightweight Structures”. She is leader of the Working Group on Applications of the IC1305 COST Action “Network for Sustainable Ultrascale Computing Systems (NESUS)”.
