2000-2003 Senior Research Fellow, Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of Sassari, Sassari (Italy).
1996-2000 Fogarty Fellow at the Laboratory of Mycobacteria, Center for Biologics Evaluations and Research, Food and Drug Administration, in a program sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.
Research Interest:
• Molecular and Immunological characterization of mycobacterial antigens and virulence factors.
• Biochemical characterization of mycobacterial antigens, and their evaluation as vaccine candidates.
• Development of new vaccines against tuberculosis and evaluation of their activity in the mouse model of tuberculosis;
• Study at the genetic level of molecular mechanisms of bacterial pathogenicity.
• Study and characterization of PE_PGRS proteins of M. tuberculosis;
• Study and characterization of HBHA of M. tuberculosis;
• Development of assays for the in vitro evaluation of antimicrobial agents.
