Agricultural Technical trainning at “Escola Técnica de Agricultura”, in Viamão, state of Rio Grande do Sul (RS), Brazil (1973-1975). B.Sc. in Agronomic Engineering by the “Universidade Federal de Pelotas-UFPEL”, RS, Brazil, (March, 1976 to July, 1980). Introduced soybeans and developed crop management technology to start its production in Lioma, Zambézia, People´s Republic of Mozambique with the advice of Dr. Francisco de Jesus Vernetti (November, 1980 to June 1984). Carried research on over-sowing rainfed wheat into soybean crops in Southern Brazil, and in Mozambique with the advice of Eduardo Allgayer Osório (1978-1983). Research scientist at Embrapa Trigo (Centro Nacional de Pesquisa de Trigo) since October 24, 1984, working on the evaluation and development of alternative crops for wheat cropping systems such as forages, pulse crops and canola. Graduate Studies in Crop Science at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada: M.Sc. thesis on wheat intercropped with forage legumes, with the advice of R. K. Foster (1990), and Ph.D. working with 15N-isotopes on Biological Nitrogen Fixation (BNF) and mechanisms of bi-directional legume-grass nitrogen transfer, with the advice of Chris van Kessel and Alfred Slinkard (1993). Published the first scientific papers with evidences of the importance of nitrogen transfer from grasses to intercropped legumes. Research and Development director of Embrapa Trigo (June 12, 1995 to November 30, 1998) and international relations contact (1996-1998). Selected genotypes and developed management technology for pulse cropping in Southern Brazil, mainly peas (1993-2000), including the release of the forage pea cultivar BRS Sulina http://www.cnpt.embrapa.br/culturas/ervilha/index.htm. Main canola research, development, technology transfer specialist and project leader in Brazil (http://www.cnpt.embrapa.br/culturas/canola/index.htm). Main technical and scientific support to the research and development activities that raised canola to become a widely cropped species in Paraguay.
