Born in Morelia Michoacán. Undergraduate training in Chemistry, Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC). Obtained master's and doctoral degree from the Graduate and Research Center in Chemistry, Technological Institute of Tijuana (ITT). Followed by a year of Postdoctoral Fellowship with Professor Jay Siegel at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD). Receievd crystallographic training at University of Stuttgart in the Department of X-ray Diffraction, and at the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (CSIC), working with Dr. Elies Molins. Founder member of the Mexican Society of Crystallography and currently a member of the board of directors of the SMRC (Regional Delegate in Baja California). Founder of the X-ray Diffraction Laboratory at the Center for Graduate Studies and Chemical Research ITT.
Been an active member of the Mexican Chemical Society (SQM) , member of the National System of Researchers of Mexico and a member of the Catalysis and Molecular Recognition group within the Technological Institute of Tijuana.
Area of expertise
Organic Physical Chemistry, synthesis of natural products and in the synthesis and designing new chiral organocatalysts. Current focus is in the area of Physical Chemistry that includes studies of interactions using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques, physical chemistry of the solid state (Crystal Engineering), as well as the use of single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques in the characterization of crystals.
