Born in Greece, I graduated from the University of Thessaloniki Medical School in Greece in 2000 and trained in pediatrics and child neurology at the Universities of Heidelberg, Dresden, and Freiburg in Germany, receiving board certification in 2009 and 2013. Furthermore, I received board certification for electroencephalography (EEG) and epileptology in 2003 and 2004. In 2005, I received a doctorate degree in medicine (Dr. med.) from the University of Heidelberg, Germany on magnetoencephalography (MEG) applications in focal epilepsy. In 2008 I completed a research fellowship on molecular pediatrics at the University of Dresden, Germany, where I focused on the Aicardi-Goutières syndrome. During my clinical training, I have attended an observership for pediatrics at Nippon Medical School Tokyo, Japan, as well as an observership for epileptology and clinical neurophysiology at the Neurological Institute, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, USA. In 2009-2015, I was in charge of the pediatric program of the Epilepsy Center, University of Freiburg. During this period, I completed my habilitation on Epilepsy Surgery in Children: Diagnostic Procedures and Treatment Outcomes in 2014, obtaining the title of Priv. Doz. (PD) from the University of Freiburg. In June 2015, I moved to Zurich, Switzerland, where I worked with the University Children's` Hospital and the Lengg Clinic, establishing a pediatric epilepsy surgery program. Since July 2018, I am heading the division of EEG and Epileptology within the Department of Pediatric Neurology, University Children's` Hospital Zurich. In December 2021, I obtained the title of Professor for Pediatrics and Neuropediatrics from the University of Zurich, Switzerland. My current research and clinical interests aim to improve diagnostic tools for refractory focal epilepsy, particularly in the context of epilepsy surgery, as well as to develop prognostic tools for outcome prediction after acute brain insults, particularly in the context of neonatal seizures. I am involved in several European joint studies. I have received awards and scholarships among others from the German Neuropediatrics Society, the German and Swiss Chapters of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE), and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
