George Robinson

PhD in immunology. Versus Arthritis Career Development Research Fellow at University College London in the Centre for Adolescent Rheumatology. My research is aimed at understanding both immune and metabolic pathological mechanisms of juvenile-onset systemic lupus erythematosus and associated comorbidities. Investigating early disease pathogenesis in younger patients can allow early intervention to improve long-term prognosis. My research uses extremely rare patient cohorts to combine immunological laboratory techniques, in-depth multi-omic (immune-phenotype, proteomic, metabolomic, and transcriptomic) data, and artificial intelligence modelling to understand the disease. My basic and translational research has been recognised through successful publications, competitive grant awards as principal investigator, and prestigious academic awards, including the BSI Early Career Research Excellence Award, BSR Garrod Award, EULAR Basic Science Award, and the PReS EMERGE Basic/Translational Science Award. I am a proud member of many influential committees across the immunology and rheumatology research communities, including the BSI Member Representative Forum, Versus Arthritis Fellows Network, and PReS EMERGE Committee. I support research culture as well as equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in research at UCL through my role as co-chair of the UCL Division of Medicine Early Career Research Network Committee and membership of the Athena SWAN Self-Assessment Team.
