个人简介
Dr Handsfield received a Bachelor of Science in Physics and a Mathematics Minor from East Carolina University, where he was a competitive swimmer in the National Collegiate Athletics Association. He worked in Medical Physics for a year before deciding that muscles were more interesting than Wood's Metal. He began studying musculoskeletal biomechanics, imaging, and computational modeling under the direction of Silvia Blemker in the Multiscale Muscle Mechanophysiology Lab at the University of Virginia. He obtained a PhD in Biomedical Engineering in 2014. He worked briefly for a startup company in Charlottesville, Virginia focused on medical imaging, image analysis, musculoskeletal modeling, and big data analytics. He was made a Whitaker Scholar in 2015, and came to the Auckland Bioengineering Institute to work with Professor Thor Besier and Associate Professor Justin Fernandez in the Musculoskeletal Modeling Group. He is currently an Aotearoa Fellow working on computational modeling to understand muscle degradation in cerebral palsy.
