个人简介
Trained as a biologist by the University of Barcelona (2008), my path toward scientific independence has thus far involved: (i) the prestigious “la Caixa” foundation fellowship for my MSc (2009) in Research in Agro-Food Production Systems, (ii) an international PhD (2014) in Agricultural and Food Science and Technology by the University of Lleida (with 2 stays, in Belgium and USA), (iii) and 2 postdoctoral stays (Denmark and France), the latter as principal investigator funded by the prestigious MSCA-IF. After 7+ years of international mobility, I now enjoy a Beatriu de Pinós fellowship (2023-2025), strategically conceived by the Catalan system of science and technology to attract talented and well-connected researchers.
Beyond certain metrics of academic productivity, my work has crucially transformed several fields of research thanks to conceptual developments and transferable knowledge. My PhD work pioneered the integration of an interdisciplinary approach, involving molecular, biochemical, and pathological techniques, to unravel the defence responses of apples and oranges against Penicillium spp. This unparalleled strategy detailed host reactive responses during the time-course of Penicillium infections, which established the bases towards enhanced disease control, in numerous postharvest diseases beyond those studied in my PhD. In 2015-2017, I joined the Yeast and Fermentation Department at Carlsberg Research Laboratory CRL (Copenhagen, Denmark), where I established with my team a new line of beverage development using alternative brewing organisms, mainly non-conventional yeasts, and lactic acid bacteria (LAB). Despite commercial interests almost impeded academic publications, I wrote 1 book chapter and led 1 article as corresponding author. In 2019, I obtained the competitive MSCA-IF for investigating a solution for plastic waste pollution (SOLFORPLAS; Toulouse, France). Following my promising SOLFORPLAS results, I have been recently awarded with the Beatriu de Pinós fellowship (Barcelona, Spain), to further deepen into polymer degradation strategies. This will serve me to launch and consolidate my own new line of research within the Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), as agreed with the institution. Despite my fundamental research conflicts with commercial interests, owing to the exploitability of industrial results, I have notably published 11 articles, 10 of which are peer-reviewed (7 as first, 2 as second to last and 3 as corresponding author), and 1 book chapter. With an h-index of 7, most of my publications have been cited more than 20 times (Web of Science), reflecting the impact of my releasable research. When allowed, my studies have been also presented in 13 national and international conferences, once recognized as best oral presentation (XI Simposio nacional y VIII Ibérico sobre maduración y postcosecha; Valencia).
My leadership indicators are thus well attested by funding acquisition and by my pivotal role in developing new strategies within the host institutions. Throughout my scientific career, and despite all the limitations of international mobility and non-permanent contracts, I have also trained 5 young investigators, substantially boosting their professional development. During my postdoc at IRTA’s postharvest pathology lab (Lleida) I supervised two bachelor students, while I continued improving my mentoring skills co-supervising 3 international MSc students at CRL. All of them still conduct research in highly reputed institutions. My leadership and scientific responsibilities are also reflected by an invited talk and an invited book chapter, reviewing tasks (~5 articles/year), and the organization of 1 national (X Simposio nacional y VII Ibérico sobre Maduración y Postcosecha) and 1 international (International Congress of Postharvest Pathology) conferences.
I am deeply committed to disseminate science to raise social awareness on future challenges. Driven by this principle, I have been active member of different associations, such as Inspiring Girls Spain, “la Caixa” Fellows’ Association, the Society of Spanish Researchers in Denmark (CED), and the Marie Curie Alumni Association, which share the goal of communicating research in a clear and simple manner to broader audiences. In 2019, I co-founded in Toulouse the Society of Spanish Researchers in France (SIEF). Our delegation (~30 researchers), and its management provided me further experience in leadership and administration, including funding acquisition for dissemination and events organization.
