Bio
Dr. GAO is a Research Assistant Professor jointly by Department of Microbiology, LKS Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong since 2021. Before joint as RAP, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow also in HKU. Before joining postdoctoral work, he obtained a Master of Medicine at Peking Union Medical College and a PhD in Microbiology at the University of Hong Kong.
Dr Gao is specialized in microbiology research with a particular focus on novel antimicrobial and alternative strategies discovery to tackle antibiotics resistance. Alternative strategies include anti-virulence agents, narrow-spectrum antimicrobials and specific agents, vaccine and bacterial phage. Dr Gao is also specialized in chemical genetics with high-throughput screening technique. Tackling infectious disease, including TB, and other bacterial infections, with novel antimicrobials or alternative strategies, are the next era of antibiotics. He has been published actively in the field of infectious disease and antibiotics resistance, covering NDM-1 Escherichia coli, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
