Tropical forest ecology, community assembly, forest dynamics
Research interests
I currently have two open lines of research, both focused on tropical forest ecology. One is the study of landscape-level patterns of composition: community assembly through niche partitioning and dispersal, beta-diversity and dominance and rarity patterns. For this purpose, I have installed 80+ 0.1-ha plots in tropical and temperate forests, most of them at different elevations in the Madidi region (Bolivia), one of the longest forested gradients on the planet. The second line of research is the study of tropical tree mortality, from both theoretical and empirical points of view. I collaborate with other researchers in obtaining useful data and results on tropical tree mortality that could potentially be integrated into global vegetation dynamic models.
