Bio
I am primarily interested in cellular changes as a result of neurodegenerative disease and damage states. The major tools I use are antibody reagents and assays made using these reagents, and one recent focus has been on the validation of phosphorylated axonal forms of NF-H (pNF-H) as a CSF and blood biomarker of axonal loss in a variety of damage and disease states. A second project looks at the potential use of ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase 1 (UCHL1) as a potential blood and CSF biomarker of cortical injury and degeneration. We have also developed a novel and high quality assay for alpha-synuclein, a Parkinson’s disease related protein which we have shown can be detected in an altered form in the blood of Parkinson’s disease patients. Studies of other potential biomarkers are in progress. I can also initiate, fund and perform projects that particularly interest me in EnCor Biotechnology Inc., my independent privately funded corporate laboratory.
