Prof Stefanini’s main research area is minimally-invasive treatment strategies for coronary artery disease, with a specific focus on devices for coronary revascularization. During the last 10 years, he has been involved in the design, conduct, data-analysis, and successful publication of randomized trials, observational studies, and meta-analyses. He has authored several relevant articles in major medical journals including the New England Journal of Medicine and the Lancet. His research is currently funded by competitive grants obtained from the Italian Ministry of Health (Ricerca Finalizzata), the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA Ricerca Indipendente), and the Italian Ministry of Education (PRIN). Prof Stefanini is actively contributing to the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), has been a member of the ESC Task Force for the Guidelines on Myocardial Revascularization, of the ESC Task Force for the evaluation of coronary artery stents, and of the ESC Task Force for the Diagnosis and Management of CV Disease in the Context of the COVID-19 Pandemic. He has also chaired the EAPCI Consensus Document on Myocardial Revascularization Failure. He is currently co-chair of the Scientific Documents Committee of the EAPCI and was recently appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Italian Journal of Invasive Cardiology (GICI).
