个人简介
Giovanni Pellegrino is an ambitious and inspired clinical research scientist. He has a strong background in medicine and neurology and his main asset is the ability to combine clinical knowledge with a deep understanding of technical and methodological aspects of multimodal neuroimaging and brain stimulation. Giovanni is indeed interested in bringing cutting-edge technology into clinical application, from the lab to the bed-side. He has been employing a combination of Electroencephalography (EEG), Magnetoencephalography (MEG), Near InfraRed Spectroscopy (NIRS), Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and non-invasive brain stimulation to address and harness brain function in stroke, epilepsy, Alzheimer disease and multiple sclerosis.
Giovanni was trained as medical doctor and neurologist in Rome, under the supervision of world leaders in the fields of neurophysiology, multimodal neuroimaging and brain stimulation (Prof. Rossini and Prof. Di Lazzaro). During his last years of residency, he moved to the Danish Research Institute for Magnetic Resonance, to improve his skills in multimodal neuroimaging/brain stimulation under the supervision of Prof. Hartwig R. Siebner. After his residency, he has been trained at the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital – McGill Universiy in Canada where he has been working at the border between clinicians of the epilepsy unit and methodologists. He was awarded with a prestigious Richard and Edith Strauss post-doctoral Fellowship in Medicine for investigating the application of advanced multimodal neuroimaging in patients affected by refractory focal epilepsy. His research on the combination of brain stimulation together with EEG and near infrared spectroscopy has been recently founded by the Quebec Bio-Imaging Network.
He serves as associated editor of an international peer-reviewed journal of neurology and as invited reviewer for 18 international peer-review journals. He has been serving as teaching assistant since the years of the medical school (Anatomy, human physiology), has trained US and Canadian clinicians and Academics in the use of Magnetoencephalography for the study of epilepsy.
