个人简介
After graduating in mechanical engineering from the University of Paderborn in August 1994, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gerson Meschut was employed as a research assistant at the Laboratory for Materials and Joining Technology (LWF) under the supervision of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ortwin Hahn. He completed his doctoral thesis on "Investigations into the thermal conductivity of bonded joints, taking into account bond-specific boundary conditions" in 1998. Following his doctorate, he became a senior engineer at the LWF, where he was responsible for the areas of adhesive bonding and hybrid joining, led numerous research projects and also played a key role in teaching.
At the beginning of 2000, he moved to Group Research at Volkswagen AG in Wolfsburg. In addition to research in the field of joining technology for future vehicle structures, including Volkswagen's well-known "1L car", his responsibilities included setting up the "Joining Technology" working group.
On November 1, 2003, he was appointed to the management of Volkswagen AG, where he was responsible for optimizing existing joining systems and developing and establishing new ones for innovative lightweight construction concepts in the Volkswagen Group. As part of this role, he also helped shape numerous publicly funded research projects in the field of joining technology.
At the beginning of 2005, he was appointed managing director of Wilhelm Böllhoff GmbH & Co. KG in Bielefeld. There he was responsible for worldwide research and development, application technology and patent management of the Böllhoff Group.
During these industrial activities, he regularly lectured as a lecturer at the University of Paderborn and as a guest lecturer at the Technical University of Dresden. In addition, he is involved on an honorary basis in numerous committees of research associations and federations on the subject of materials and joining technology and is an elected reviewer for the German Federation of Industrial Research Associations (AiF).
On 01.09.2011 he was appointed as successor of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ortwin Hahn at the University of Paderborn.
A significant research focus of the LWF is on the development of joining techniques suitable for materials, especially for hybrid materials and mixed construction methods. Here, the LWF was a major pioneer in the development of mechanical joining processes for the manufacture of lightweight vehicles. The developments have received several awards. Another competence of the LWF is the development of methods for experimental and numerical process simulation and stress analysis or lifetime prediction of joined hybrid structures.
Through close cooperation with renowned industrial partners and research institutes in numerous bilateral or publicly funded projects, the LWF has developed into a recognized institution with nationally and internationally recognized expertise in the field of joining technology and lightweight construction. In 2006, the LWF celebrates its 40th anniversary.
Prof. D.-Ing. Gerson Meschut is the spokesperson of the Collaborative Research Center/Transregio TRR285.
