Bio
I was borne in 1958 in ancient Russian town Eletz, but from my early childhood I grew up and got education in city Kyiv, capital of Ukraine. I entered Kyiv State University, faculty of Radiophysics, and graduated it with excellent diploma (1975–1980). Then I served in Corps of Radar Engineers as lieutenant-engineer (1980–1982). In 1982 I obtained fellowship position at Physics Faculty of Kyiv State University. Here I defended my thesis “Dynamics and interaction with ionosphere plasma of an artificial electron beam” (specialty “Theoretical Physics”) for Ph.D. degree under the supervision of Prof. Nykolai Kotsarenko (1988).
Research experience. The sphere of my scientific research is wave processes in upper Earth atmosphere and ionosphere, satellite data analyzing, preparation and carrying out of satellite space missions. I am the author of more than 90 articles in the scientific journals.
Carrier. In period 1982–2007 I worked at Chair of Theoretical Physics, and then at Chair of Astronomy of Kyiv National University where I gradually changed all working positions from Engineer up to Senior Researcher. In 2007 I was invited to Space Research Institute (SRI) of National Academy of Science of Ukraine (NASU) and of State Space Agency of Ukraine (SSAU) at position of Head of Laboratory for Satellite Near Space Exploration.
The main directions of the Laboratory activity are:
– Processing and analysis of the data of previous and contemporary ionospheric satellites – series of NASA spacecrafts “Atmosphere Explorer” and “Dynamic Explorer”, Ukrainian spacecrafts “Sich”, French “DEMETER”, etc.
– On this base – theoretical investigation of dynamic processes in the Earth upper atmosphere and ionosphere: atmosphere gravity waves, magneto-hydrodynamic waves, radiofrequency plasma emissions, etc.
– Preparation and realization of national missions in the near space – missions “Variant”, “Potential”, “Ionosat”, etc.
My other today activities: scientific coordinator of space experiment “Potential” onboard of “Sich-2” satellite; scientific coordinator of space mission “Ionosat-Micro” (provided by Space Program of Ukraine); member of Scientific Council on Space Research of National Academy of Science of Ukraine.
Awards. State Prize of Ukraine in field of Science and Technology.
Professor experience. I give lectures at Physics and Radiophysics Faculties of Kyiv National University named Taras Shevchenko: special courses on hydrodynamics, electrodynamics, space plasma physics, and theory of wave processes. Being professional physicist-theorist, my own investigations I carry out at the junction of theory and experiment; forming the style of my lectures I see as example to follow the Feynman Lectures on Physics.
All students who prepared diploma thesis under my supervision obtained their degrees with excellent results; many of them became scientists. Now I lead the group of Ph.D. students.
