Bio
Dr Pennings is currently a postdoctoral researcher, under the supervision of Prof Len Kritharides, in the Vascular Biology Group at the ANZAC Research Institute and holds an affiliate position of Research Fellow at the University of Sydney. Her main areas of interest include platelet and leukocyte biology particularly the role of platelets in cardiovascular disease. She completed her PhD under the supervision of Prof John Fletcher and Dr Heather Medbury at Westmead Hospital and received the John Loewenthal Medal for outstanding research in the Department of Surgery at the University of Sydney. Her current work is at the interface of platelets and inflammation and the impact on cardiovascular disease. She is also interested in the effect of remote ischaemic preconditioning on platelets in cardiovascular disease and the role of ageing on platelet activity. Dr Pennings has published 19 peer-reviewed papers in highly regarded journals for the field including Blood, Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis and International Journal of Cardiology. She has been cited 438 times; this is an average of 23 citations per published article. She's been invited to speak at national meetings, and presented her work at 13 conferences and 2 symposia for which she was short-listed for 4 awards and was successful at receiving 2 and was runner-up for the remaining 2. She was a successful applicant of the Kickstart Grant (University of Sydney) and has successfully obtained numerous travel grants and scholarships.
