个人简介
Dr. Weiss’s major research interest is to understand how neural systems translate motivation into action, with emphasis on identifying mechanisms that mediate pathological behavior as opposed behavior essential for survival and normal hedonic pursuits. This research focuses predominantly on the neural basis of behavior controlled by the addictive actions of drugs of abuse and the processes leading to the development of drug and alcohol dependence. These efforts include identification of brain signaling systems that mediate distinct aspects of addictive behavior as well as of adaptations in the functioning of these systems that develop with chronic drug use and exacerbate drug seeking, lead to drug craving states, and convey vulnerability to relapse. An important preclinical objective of this work is the identification of pharmacological targets for the treatment of addiction and prevention of relapse.
