Bio
Fredian Tonny was born in Ketapang, West Kalimantan on February 14, 1958. He received an undergraduate education at the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economic Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, IPB 1977-1982. Completed postgraduate studies at the Rural Sociology Study Program at the Graduate School of IPB in 1985-1987. Conducted PhD education in the field of Rural Sociology at the Department of Social Development Studies, Faculty of Human Ecology, Universiti Agriculture Malaysia in 1995-1999.
He has been a teaching staff at the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economic Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, IPB since 1985, then in 2005 he became a teaching staff (lecturer) at the Department of Communication Science and Community Development, Faculty of Human Ecology, IPB University. He teaches at the undergraduate program in the Communication and Community Development Study Program and the postgraduate program in the Rural Sociology Study Program, the Master in Community Development, the Master in Regional Development, and Regional Planning at IPB University. He was Secretary of the Education and Training Center of LPPM IPB in 1991-1993, Secretary of the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economic Sciences of IPB in 1993-1995, Secretary of the Department of Communication Science and Community Development, Faculty of Human Ecology, IPB University in 2005-2017.
In the field of research, Fredian Tonny has been active under the research institution of the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies of LPPM IPB, starting with this institution named the Rural Sociology Research Institute since 1983. The focus of the research is on rural community institutions and the development of agricultural and rural communities. Specifically in oil palm plantations, Fredian Tonny Nasdian is a researcher and writer in various studies: (1) Readiness of Independent Oil Palm Smallholders in ISPO Implementation: Environmental Issues, Legality and Sustainability (2018); (2) Plantation Governance Policy to Increase Credibility and Acceptance of Indonesian Palm Oil in the International Market (2019); (3) Development of the HOUSE of Institutional Innovation and Information Systems to Fulfill the Rights and Protection of Women and Children Workers (2020-2022); (4) Strengthening Palm Oil Sustainability (SPOS) in Indonesia (2019-2021); (5) Map of Indonesian Palm Oil Problems at the Micro Level and Market Acceptance of the European Union (2021); and (6) Unraveling Disputes on Trade Restriction Policy by the European Union on Indonesian Palm Oil: from Environmental Issues to National Self-Esteem (2021-2022)
