Bio
Department of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, and a Postgraduate and Research Fellow in the Faculty of Medicine, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Uganda. He previously served as an Assistant Lecturer, Coordinator Teaching and Learning and Ag. Head of Department (Department of Human Anatomy), and Deputy Director Academic Affairs of a private university, Kampala International University- Western Campus (KIU-WC). He holds a MSc. Human Anatomy from Kampala International University, Uganda (2017); a BMSc. from Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Uganda (2014); a Dip. Clin Med from Mbale School of Clinical Officers, Uganda (2007).
He is a seasoned academician and researcher with almost 10 years of experience in teaching University undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Human Anatomy, Biomedical Sciences and conduction of Community oriented action research. He is a member of the Allied Health Professionals’ Council of Uganda.
Previously he has worked on numerous research programs focusing on: (1) Infection Medicine (mainly SARS-CoV-2 infection and African trypanosomiasis); (2) Epidemiologic environmental toxicology and pollutants in food and herbal products consumed by humans and animal models (heavy metals content of beef, consumable water, vegetables and herbal medicines from Uganda); (3) Assessment of the safety and efficacy of natural products such as bee venom and propolis from bees, monosodium glutamate, phytochemicals from herbs and vegetables during their use in food and/or alternative medicines being promoted in developing countries to control human diseases/conditions such as COVID-19, malaria, parkinsonism, ethambutol-induced optic neuropathy, estrous cycle, and oxidative stress-induced damages using laboratory animals such as Drosophila, mice, and rats; (4) Assessment of the safety of artificial products such as monosodium glutamate consumed as a food supplement, antimalarials and Lactobacillus rhamnosus in yogurt in developing countries; (5) Anatomic cadaveric investigations to determine dimorphic features of scapulae, suprascapular notches (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33172458/), and sciatic nerves in Uganda; and lip print patterns in East Africa (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.fsir.2019.100012); (6) Neuroscience studies where he assessed the safety and efficacy of natural products such as Imperata cylindrica and propolis from bees for treatment of epilepsy and parkinsonism respectively and analysis of neurological effect of natural products such as ethanol and analysis of neuropathological features associated with certain conditions such as calcium deregulation in diabetes mellitus as a central mechanism to brain–heart axis pathology, ethambutol-induced optic neuropathy, etc. in developing countries using laboratory animals such as Drosophila, mice, and rats; (7) Analysis of neurological features, behavior and psychological challenges in populations of developing countries such as (i) neurological features during academic-induced stress in medical students of Uganda (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35757206/); (ii) COVID-19-related mental health burdens and behaviors in Africa, developing countries and Uganda such as the mental health status of individuals (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34956994/ ), the impact of education level on COVID-19-related mental health burdens (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34900896/); the pandemic mental health in Africa and developing countries (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32528614/) and (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32528614/); the behavioral response to self-medication practices (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36034331/) during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He is currently a Postgraduate and Research Fellow, and a Ph.D. student in Infection Medicine (Biomedical Sciences). He is actively participating in continued learning through conferences, collaborations and professional research. He is a believer in students’ abilities to learn and strive for knowledge given a conducive environment.
