个人简介
Francisco Perfectti is Professor at the Department of Genetics at the University of Granada. He received his PhD in Biological Sciences (Genetics) from the University of Granada in 1995 with a PhD Thesis on the characterization of the genetic resources of Annona cherimola. He moved in 1995 to the Department of Biology of the University of Rochester (NY, USA) to work with Dr John Werren in the genetics of speciation in parasitic wasps of the genus Nasonia. He returned as Profesor Asociado to the University of Granada during the academic year 1997/98. He was visiting scholar at the University of California – Berkeley during the academic year 2016/17.
His research has covered several topics on evolutionary biology (including both genetic and ecological aspects), population genetics and evolutionary genomics. His scientific interests are focused on the analysis of the coevolutionary processes, at the genomic level (parasite chromosomes, evolution of repeated DNA) and ecological level (evolutionary biology of the interaction between pollinators and plants), as well as on the speciation process and the genetics of adaptation, using animal (ortoptera, Nasonia) and plant (Erysimum, Moricandia) models. He is also interested in the role of individual-based networks in population dynamics and evolution. His more recent scientific project analyses the genetics of the phenotypic plasticity in the plant genus Moricandia.
His research work has resulted in >90 contributions to scientific meetings and close to a hundred scientific papers, the vast majority of which have been published in SCI-indexed international journals, such as Nature, Evolution, Genetics, Heredity, Proceedings of The Royal Society, Chromosoma, Ecology Letters, The American Naturalist, Philosophical Transactions, PLoS ONE, Oikos, Annals of Botany, New Phytologist, Molecular Ecology, etc. He has participated in 20 public-funded research projects. In the last five years, he has published 25 papers listed in SCI and being PI of three scientific projects. In these scientific projects, FP has developed several lines of interdisciplinary research that currently represent frontier science, such as the speciation process in the face of genetic flow (PI of the project “Ecological and genetic processes producing speciation: the interplay between hybridisation, poliploidy, and local adaptation in generalist plants”), the evolution of individual interaction networks (PI of the project “Structured Generalisation: evolutionary dynamics at fine spatial scales in a generalist system”), or the evolution of (selfish) genetic elements from an “ecology of the genome” perspective. He is in the governance board of the UGR’s Excelence Unit “Modeling Nature” (www.modelingnature.org) and co-founder of the research group Evoflor (www.evoflor.org)
F. Perfectti teach Evolutionary Biology and The Conceptual Development of Biology at undergraduate level (Biology Degree) and several courses at graduate level, including Phylogeography and Molecular Phylogeny, and Creativity, Rigor and Communication in the Master of Genetics and Evolution. He has supervised six PhD students. He has participated in 12 Teaching Innovation Projects, two of them awarded by the University of Granada, and in several Tutorial Action Plans. It has been awarded the University of Granada prize for scientific excellence. He is a member of the following scientific societies: The Society for the Study of Evolution, Spanish Society of Genetics, Coevolution Society, and founder member of the Spanish Society of Evolutionary Biology.
