个人简介
Francisco J. Quiles received the degree and PhD in Physics (Electronics and Computer Science) at the University of Valencia in 1986 and 1993, respectively. In 1987 he joined the Computer Systems Department at University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), where he is currently a Full Professor of Computer Architecture and Technology. He has developed several courses on computer organization and computer architecture.
His research interests include high-performance interconnection networks for multiprocessor systems, clusters and Datacenters, and parallel algorithms for video compression and video transmission. He has published more than 260 peer-reviewed and referenced papers in different international journals and conferences.
He has participated in more than 125 research and scientific infrastructure projects, supported by the NFS, European Commission, and the Spanish and Regional Governments. He has been involved in more than 17 Research & Development Agreements with different companies, such as Huawei, Bull, OVERON, Simula Research Labs, etc. In addition, he has supervised 9 doctoral theses and he is co-inventor of 4 patents (one of them international together with the company Mellanox (in process)). Francisco J. Quiles developed a research stay at the USC (University of Southern California) in 2002.
From 1992 Francisco J. Quiles is the Head of the High Performance Networks and Architectures (RAAP) research group at UCLM. He founded this group 31 years ago, and since then the research experience of its members, as well as the quality of the research developed, has been very significant. As a result, this research group is widely recognized at the national and international context. This recognition has allowed the establishment of successful collaboration with numerous national and international research groups. Since 2019, his research group is a Technical Institute associated with the ATLAS project of CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research).
He was Dean of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) from 1991 to 1994. He was the first Dean of the Computer Science Engineering Faculty (UCLM) from 1994 to 2000, launching the Computer Engineering degree. From January 2000 to November 2011, he was the Vice-Rector of Research of the University of Castilla-La Mancha. Since 2003, he has belonged to the National Executive of the Research Sector of the Spanish Universities Association (CRUE), and he was its General Secretary from 2007 to 2011. During the years 2015-16, he was President of the Spanish National Commission for the evaluation of the Quality of Research in Computer and Electronic Engineering, of the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation of Spain, (ANECA), being member and secretary of the same committee in 2013-14. He is currently Director of the Computer Systems Department since November 2012, and since 2019 President of the Spanish Scientific Society of Computer Architecture (SARTECO).
