My interests are in the cell biology of leukocytes and vascular endothelial cells and their adhesive interactions in the context of the pathophysiology of the inflammatory response. Prior to closing my lab in December 2021, my lab employed mouse and human models to understand the molecular mechanisms involved leukocyte recruitment and in regulating vascular permeability, focusing on the role of vascular endothelial expressed adhesion molecules (e.g., ICAM-1 and CD47, and the adherens junction protein, Vascular Endothelial-cadherin (VE-cadherin, cadherin-5). My lab team combined expertise in endothelial cell biochemistry, immunology and live cell fluorescence microscopy techniques with my collaborators, Drs. Kevin Croce, Andrew Lichtman, and Tanya Mayadas from BWH (MGB) and Charles Parkos, Chairman of Pathology, University of Michigan, who have significant expertise in intravital microscopy of the microcirculation and have established several in vivo experimental models and in vitro models of inflammation and vascular permeability. My laboratory was located in the Center for Excellence in Vascular Biology, Department of Pathology, Brigham and Women’s Hospital (Mass General Brigham).
