个人简介
Filipa Amaro has a BSc degree in Biochemistry (2016) from the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto-Douro, and a MSc degree in Biochemistry (2018) from the Faculty of Science-University of Porto. During her BSc dissertation, she developed electroanalytical approaches to study DNA intercalation with antimalarial drugs using cyclic voltammetry and UV-vis spectroscopy. These studies resulted in an oral communication at the 23rd Topical Meeting of the International Society of Electrochemistry in Lithuania (2018) and an article published in Eletrochimica Acta (DOI information: 10.1016/j.electacta.2019.03.068). During her BSc degree (2015), she also carried out a voluntary internship at the Hospital Center of Vila Real, under the supervision of Dr. Rosário Pinto-Leite, where she began her studies in cell culture. During her MSc dissertation, she worked with Professor Jorge Gonçalves, the head of the Laboratory of Pharmacology of Faculty of Pharmacy-University of Porto, in cancer biology. She developed the thesis entitled "Neoplastic transformation of breast epithelial cells induced by non-genotoxic stress". This study aimed to test the hypothesis that exposure to catecholamines represents a crucial mechanism for the growth/survival of breast cancer cells and for the malignant/neoplastic transformation of non-tumorigenic human breast epithelial cells. For this propose, the effects of beta-agonists and antagonists were tested in cellular dynamics, including the expression of the relevant enzymes and mRNAs of adrenergic machinery using immunocytochemistry assays, rt-PCR and western blot in both cells lines MCF-10A and MCF-7. The research findings were presented at the XLIX Meeting of the Portuguese Society of Pharmacology (2019) in Faculty of Pharmacy-University of Porto. Recently, she has started to work in a new line of research, as a MSc researcher, concerning the identification of potential biomarkers for early diagnosis of renal cell carcinoma using GC-MS based metabolomic approaches, at the Associated laboratory UCIBIO-REQUIMTE, Faculty of Pharmacy-University of Porto. Filipa Amaro has a curious and persistent profile and wants to use her research work to help to improve human quality of life. She has also been involved in several volunteering activities, including the participation in a humanitarian mission (2018) where she helped to rebuild a school in southern Tanzania.
