Bio
Prof Dr Femke Broere studies focus on understanding the immunological mechanisms behind the induction of tolerance and effector mechanisms of the adaptive immune system. Regulatory cells on the one hand play a pivotal role in the protection against unwanted inflammatory responses and in maintaining immune homeostasis. On the other hand effector, cells are crucial for protection of the body against pathogenic microorganisms. Her major interest is to understand how to steer the adaptive immune response towards the optimal response, essential for the development of novel immunotherapeutics to protect during inflammation and vaccination and to restore immunological homeostasis in chronic inflammatory diseases (e.g. allergy or autoimmunity)
After obtaining her PhD in Amsterdam at the Free University, she obtained a position at the Veterinary Faculty of the University Utrecht were she was responsible for the coordination of different PhD projects as group leader of the immunomodulation group within the Immunology Division and during this period also obtained her MSC in Veterinary Medicine.
