Dr. Farhad Taghizadeh-Hesary is an Associate Professor of Economics at Tokai University in Japan. Furthermore, he serves as a Vice President and Co-founder of the International Society for Energy Transition Studies (ISETS), based in Australia.
He has previously held positions as an Assistant Professor at Keio University and Waseda University in Japan. He is/was a Visiting Professor at various universities and institutions, including Keio University (Japan), Yonsei University (Korea), Chiang Mai University (Thailand), the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), UCSI University (Malaysia), Institute of Energy Economics of Japan (IEEJ), the Credit Risk Database (CRD) Association of Japan, Graduate School of Economics of the University of Tokyo (Japan), Griffith University (Australia), and The University of Tasmania (Australia). In 2019, he was honored with the Excellent Young Researcher (LEADER) status by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT).
In 2022, he was included in Clarivate's list of Highly Cited Researchers™, representing the top 0.1% of scientists worldwide. Additionally, he achieved recognition in 2022 by being ranked in the top 2% of economists and energy researchers globally based on the Stanford-Elsevier ranking. His prominence extended to the field of green finance, where he was identified as a leading global scholar through bibliometric studies published in the Renewable Energy journal (Elsevier) and the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews journal (Elsevier) in 2022. Notably, his contribution to the area of climate finance earned him the top position globally among prolific authors, as indicated by a bibliometric study published in the Journal of Climate Finance (Elsevier) in 2023.
On April 19, 2023, he was awarded the Medal and Commendation for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology of Japan. This recognition acknowledged his exceptional research accomplishments in renewable energy financing, particularly his work on designing the green credit guarantee scheme.
Dr. Taghizadeh-Hesary has an extensive publication record encompassing diverse topics such as energy economics, energy policy, green finance, financing for small and medium-sized enterprises, Asian economics, and the contemporary Japanese economy.
Presently, he holds the role of Editor-In-Chief at the Journal of Environmental Assessment Policy and Management (published by World Scientific) and serves as an associate editor or board member for several other journals, including Economic Change and Restructuring, Energy Efficiency, Singapore Economic Review, Global Finance Journal, Financial Innovation, Heliyon, Journal of Risk Finance, Review of Accounting and Finance, China Financial Review International, and Vision-The Journal of Business Perspective.
He has also guest edited special issues for various journals, such as Energy Policy, Energy Economics, Finance Research Letters, Economic Analysis and Policy, Resources Policy, Renewable Energy, Journal of Environmental Management, and Climate Change Economics.
His research endeavors comprise the authorship of over 300 academic journal papers and book chapters, along with editing 22 books published by prominent publishers, including Springer Nature, Routledge, World Scientific, and the Asian Development Bank Institute.
Dr. Taghizadeh-Hesary led and participated in numerous research, capacity building and training (CBT), and consulting projects focused on energy, economic, and financial-related subjects for international organizations and institutions such as the United Nations, Asian Development Bank, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, Asian Development Bank Institute, Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia, and the Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation Institute and financial institutions and governments of various countries.
Dr. Farhad Taghizadeh-Hesary holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Keio University with a scholarship from the Japanese government (Monbusho: MEXT) and a Master's degree in Energy Economics from Tehran University, Iran.
