个人简介
I am an assistant professor (Ad Astra Fellow) in the School of Irish, Celtic Studies and Folklore in University College Dublin, Ireland. My research interests include Celtic historical linguistics, with a special focus on the diachronic development of the Old Irish language, Early Irish law, and early Irish literature. I have also a keen interest in generative syntax and corpus linguistics. I lecture on early Irish language, medieval law and society, and early Irish and Welsh literature. I am currently supervising a PhD thesis on the morphosyntax of Old Irish and I welcome potential master and PhD students to discuss their thesis proposal with me.
I am the principal investigator of an ERC-funded project 'Fluid texts and scholars’ digests: (re)production of law in medieval Ireland (FLEXI)', which runs from September 2023 to August 2028. FLEXI studies four sets of late medieval Irish legal florilegia, or 'digests'. It traces and measures the sources used in these digests quantitatively, using linked data model and network analysis to show their compilatory principles and text reuse patterns. It also looks for possible influences from external legal traditions and develops software for automated detection of parallel texts (text reuse) for early Irish texts.
Before I joined UCD in 2020 I worked as a postdoc in Maynooth University since 2015, and as an O'Donovan Scholar at the Dublin Institute for Advance Studies from 2014-15. I was awarded a PhD in Early and Medieval Irish by University College Cork in 2015, and I received my MPhil degree in Celtic Studies from University of Oxford in 2011. My primary degree is Law and Philosophy from Peking University, China.
I have published widely on the leading journals of Celtic Studies and in multi-author volumes since 2013. I have also co-edited Morphosyntactic Variation in Medieval Celtic Languages (2020). Most of my publications are on historical phonology and early Irish legal texts, but I look forward to publishing more on historical syntax.
Besides my scholarly publications, I am an active promoter of Irish culture to the Chinese public. I have authored two popular books in Chinese: Dear Old Ireland (2015, 2019) introducing Irish history and culture, and Medieval Irish Legends (2022) retelling 25 of the best Irish sagas; I have also published a Chinese translation of Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill's poems (2016). As a learner and admirer of the Irish language, as well as a speaker of marginalised languages (Cantonese and Uyghur), I am enthusiastic in defending language rights in public life.
