Franck Mauvais-Jarvis

Dr. Mauvais-Jarvis is a physician-scientist with a clinical training in Medicine and Endocrinology as well as a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Paris V School of Medicine in France. He studied the mechanisms of insulin resistance as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the laboratory of C. Ronald Kahn at the Joslin Diabetes Center. Dr. Mauvais-Jarvis was respectively Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. He currently holds the Price-Goldsmith Endowed Professorship in Nutrition Research and is Professor of Medicine in the Section of Endocrinology at Tulane University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. Dr. Mauvais-Jarvis has authored over 100 publications dealing with novel mechanisms and/or therapeutic perspectives for diabetes and obesity and the role of estrogen and androgens in metabolic diseases. Dr. Mauvais-Jarvis is internationally renowned for his translational research on estrogen receptors activation in protecting pancreatic β-cells in diabetes. He is the principal investigator of research grants from the National Institutes of Health and has received awards from organizations including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, the March of Dimes Foundation and the French Diabetes Association. He is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation.
