Career Trajectory
Bio
Farkhad Aliev graduated with top honors at the Faculty of Physics, Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) in 1981. In 1984 Aliev defended his doctoral thesis at MSU with the highest score. Between 1984 and 1996 he worked as a staff scientist at the Faculty of Physics of MSU. Besides research, he devoted himself to teaching activities and directed 10 master theses.
In June and July 1990 he was invited to conduct research at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) under the collaboration agreement between MSU and the UAM, one of the project leaders from MSU. At the end of this visit he has been invited to make longer stays. Between 1991 and 1995 he worked as a visiting professor and researcher at the Autonomous University of Madrid and between 1995 and 1998 as a guest professor at the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium). Since 1999 Aliev returned to Spain invited by the Department of condensed matter physics at the UAM where he held various teaching posts: visiting professor, assistant, associate professor and currently full professor at UAM.
In the late nineties, he formed a new group MAGNETRANS-UAM ( http://webs.fmc.uam.es/magnetrans.group/ ). Since then he has developed several experimental methods and research directions, unique in Spain, including: noise measurements at low and high frequency materials and devices; and study of magnetic dynamic up to 40 GHz. In addition, with his PhD stdents he developed methods of micro magnetic dynamics simulations, simulations of superconductivity and a system for measuring transitional lateral photo effect.
He is the author of over 190 articles in international journals listed in ISI, of 5 patents (including two in USSR) plus a request (2021), invited review article for Encyclopedia on Nanotechnology and of 7 book chapters. F. Aliev directed 16 research projects (one of which is an international project of European cooperation) and participated in over 10 projects. Aliev is member of Editorial board of Nature Scientific Reports.
He has given more than 60 invited talks (+30 past 5 years) at international conferences and Schools, and +30 seminars. His main research topics are: magnetism and superconductivity in strongly correlated systems (1982-1999); thermoelectric effects in intermetallic compounds (1986-1994); dynamics in magnetic and superconducting nanostructures (1995-to present); lateral photo effect in hybrid nanostructures (2014-to present).
F. Aliev directed 11 doctoral thesis. He organized three international schools, in addition to an international conference. Farkhad Aliev received several scholarships, grants and awards including: posdoc research grant of the Ministry of Education and Science (1991-1994), Senior Research Fellowship at the Catholic University of Leuven (1995 -1998). He has been awarded the 1st prize of XIX concourse of scientific works of the students of the Soviet Union, 3rd prize in the scientific works of young researchers of the Faculty of Physics of MSU in 1985. In the last years doctoral students led by F. Aliev have received best poster/reseach awards (8 times) and presented papers at several international workshops and schools.
Farkhad Aliev is author of two books:
(i) Noise in Spintronics: From Understanding to Manipulation, Pan Stanford (Taylor&Francis Group, 2018) https://www.jennystanford.com/9789814774345/noise-in-spintronics/
