Bio
I (Dr. Eyobel Mulugeta Damte) am a senior researcher at Bio and Emerging Technology Institute, Emerging Technology Center, Nano Technology Directorate and also leading energy and environment nanotechnology research team. Before joining this institute I was working as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Ambo University, College of Natural and Computational Sciences, Ethiopia. I had received my Ph.D in analytical chemistry from Addis Ababa University, Chemistry Department in July 2014. In nanotechnology directorate, I have been engaged on synthesis and characterization of silver and zinc oxide nanoparticles for different applications such as aflatoxin sensor, nanomosquitocides, food preservation, and tick control. I have been also engaged on synthesis of a variety of materials that can be used as adsorbent, catalyst and other related applications. I have remarkable skills on co-precipitation, microwave digestion, and high temperature synthesis methods. I am also familiar with electrochemical, photochemical and hydrothermal synthesis methods. In addition to this, I had the opportunity to work with several advanced material characterization techniques such as UV-Vis, XRD, SEM-EDS, TEM, TGA, DSC, ICP, FTIR and BET surface area analysis. My research interest mainly focuses on environmental protection and remediation; food safety; and health. Specifically, I have been working on synthesis of aluminium hydroxide-based materials, natural zeolite, and activated carbon for removal of fluoride from water using adsorption method. I have also spent time to study the mechanism of fluoride-material interactions. My PhD dissertation/thesis was also focused on synthesis and characterization nano-sized aluminium hydroxide based materials and their application for removal of fluoride from drinking water. As a result, I have published nine articles in a peer reviewed international and national journals and presented the research findings in national and international conferences. Two year back, I have joined the research team, in Yancheng Institute of Technology, Key Laboratory for Advanced Technology in Environmental Protection of Jiangsu Province to work in the area of photocatalysis. This has a great potential for environmental protection in general, and water treatment in particular.
