Bio
Professor Kimonis’ program of research focusses on the development, assessment, and treatment of callous-unemotional traits and aggressive behavior in youth, with special interest in the roles of childhood maltreatment and emotional processing deficits. Her research has been published in top peer-reviewed journals in the fields of clinical, developmental, and forensic psychology. She has authored several book chapters on childhood disruptive behaviour disorders and juvenile psychopathy. She is also the Section Editor for the Legal and Ethical Issues section of Cautin and Lilienfeld’s forthcoming Encyclopedia of Clinical Psychology published by Wiley-Blackwell.
Professor Kimonis has been involved in a large number of forensic cases in the United States at both the Federal and State Court level as part of an evaluation and consultation team. She has experience with forensic evaluations and forensic consultation related to substance abuse, risk assessment, malingering, competency, sanity, domestic violence, child witnesses, and penalty phase evaluations. She is also an experienced provider of parent management training interventions, and is a certified provider and Level 1 trainer of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) for young children with disruptive behaviours. She is Director of the Parent-Child Research Clinic at UNSW, where she treats children and families using an enhanced version of PCIT she developed for severe and treatment-resistant conduct problems.
