Career Trajectory
Bio
I am a biologist and an ethologist. I graduated in Biological Sciences at the University of Rome "La Sapienza" in 1981, with a thesis on the social organization of non-owned free-roaming cats in the urban environment. My doctoral degree was in Anthropological Sciences in 1993, at the University of Florence (Italy), with a thesis on the socioendocrinology of macaques. My research interests focus on intra-specific social behaviour and in the reproductive strategies of domestic cats and dogs, welfare in shelter dogs and assessment of animal individual differences. My research focus on intra-specific social behaviour of mammals, on behavioural, physiological and immunological indicators of welfare and on the relationships between individual differences and vulnerability to diseases in shelter dogs. Recently, I have focused my interest on the effects of cannabidiol on the behavior of dogs housed in kennels.
