Bio
My name is Esther María Llorente Cuenca, I am a person with a great love for science and knowledge, with a high sensitivity and a great respect for Nature and for the people who have taught me to love and study it.
Since I was very young I have been interested in butterflies, worms and lizards, and my Sundays in the river was a great adventure.
This joy and need for knowledge led me to study the Bachelor of Science and when I understood the effect that humans have on their environment, I decided to study the Degree in Environmental Sciences at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, acquiring knowledge and skills to work in the environment, doing my Final Degree Project with evolutionary models and the adaptation that living beings have to Global Change, with the help of Dr. Benito Hernández Bermejo, who taught me to model the different adaptations that living beings can have from a theoretical physical point of view.
Once I finished this path, I thought about the interactions between living beings and how to conserve them and the environment they are part of, so I decided to take the Official University Master's Degree in Biodiversity Conservation and Ecology Techniques, specialising in carnivore management and conservation under the guidance of Dr. Emilio Virgós and Dr. Jorge Lozano, who taught me how to manage and conserve carnivores. Jorge Lozano, who taught me the skills of detection through signals and tracking of animals as cryptic as carnivores, doing my Master's thesis with carnivores, fragmentation and abundance of food, integrating not only the habitat but also the trophic abundance to explain the preference of these animals for one or another area. This is something very necessary to establish protected areas in a more effective way.
I also learned as a field technician how to set up camera traps, estimate abundances and establish models.
During this time I have also worked with Dr. Aurelio Malo at the University of Alcalá, setting Sherman traps to capture micromammals in the project Ecology and Evolution of Rodents in the forest of Valdenazar, which gives me an important experience in field work and in the animals that form part of the base of the food chain.
I have experience in writing scientific articles, congresses and oral presentations to disseminate the knowledge gained and thus help to improve the conservation status of the species around us.
Therefore, I will continue to work to understand and conserve the living creatures with which we share our lives.
