Bio
Since I started my bachelor in chemistry, I have been highly interested in pharmaceutical chemistry and in the synthesis of compounds with different biological properties. For this reason, I performed my ERASMUS stay in the group of Wim De Borggraeve (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven) which was focused in peptide and peptidomimetic synthesis which can be useful as anticancer drugs.
I completed my PhD thesis in the group of José Ramón Pedro (Universitat de València). There I focused my efforts in the study of the enantioselective conjugate addition reaction of different carbon nucleophiles to α,β-unsaturated imines in order to obtain enantiomerically pure amino esters. These compounds have emerged as an interesting family of compounds due to their biological properties. All this work has led to the publication of seven research articles in high quality journals as a first (Chemistry-A European Journal., Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry, Rsc Advances) and have given me the possibility of learning a wide variety of techniques such as HPLC or MPLC and improving my background in organic chemistry.
Furthermore, during my PhD I carried a 3 month stay in the group of Prof. Romano V.A. Orru (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) in the imidoylative isocyanide insertion reaction catalyzed by palladium complexes. This upgraded my knowledge in the activation of inert molecules.
Later, I carried out a postdoctoral stay at the "Institute of Microbial Chemistry" in the group of Professor Masakatsu Shibasaki, in which I worked in the synthesis of amino acid derivatives with high atomic economy and in the synthesis of peptides via flow chemistry from which I could publish two research articles in in top tier journals (Journal of American Chemical Society, Organic Letters).
Later, I took part of the international project management team at the INCLIVA Health Research Institute for the management of european collaboration projects and revitalization of emerging researchers.
Finally, I have worked in PTS (Polypeptide Therapeutic Solutions). This is a company based on the synthesis of therapeutic polymers. In this company, I have worked mostly on the synthesis of high molecular weight molecules and in the conjugation of drugs into polymers. Furthermore, working in this company has increased my knowledge, not only in synthetic chemistry but also in analytical techniques such as GPC or electrophoresis.
