Bio
Esperanza Vera-Toscano works as Senior Research Fellow at the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economics and Social Research (University of Melbourne). She has worked for 6 years for the European Commission (DG JRC) and is currently "on leave” as tenured Scientist from the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas (CSIC, Spain). She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Aberdeen (UK), and a Master Degree from the University College Dublin in Ireland. She was Visiting Professor at the Department of Economics of the University of Alicante (Spain) and pre and post- doctoral researcher at Statistics Canada and the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of California Davis (USA). Her main fields of research are Labour economics and Social economics. She is interested in investigating individuals’ labour market behaviour, as well as poverty, social exclusion and individuals’ wellbeing, paying particular attention the variables gender and region, and lately, education and skills. Within econometrics, she has a wide experience using panel and cross-section data to investigate the determinants of individual’s behaviour from a multidisciplinary perspective.
