Eric is an expert on polar ice sheets and the effects of global climate change on the cryosphere. He uses satellites, airborne platforms, field data (oceanographic surveys) and computer models (JPL/UCI ISSM and MITgcm) to understand the dynamics of glacier ice along the coasts of the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets and in Alaska and Patagonia. His research has documented acceleration of ice loss in these places as a result of climate change and the importance of ice-ocean interaction in driving these glacier systems out of balance more rapidly than previously thought possible.
