We are interested in the structure and function of the spindle pole body in the budding yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Our focus is on the requirements for microtubule nucleation. We are also engaged in worldwide collaborations, funded by the NIH National Center for Research Resources (NCRR), to map the arrangement of protein components within large macromolecular complexes using microscopy-based FRET (fluorescence resonance energy transfer). As part of this effort we have developed a new FRET standard and FRET analysis software. See the Yeast Resource Center (YRC) website for additional information.
