Career Trajectory
Bio
Dr Eric DI PASQUALE, Ph.D. – Assistant Professor (since 1996) – Aix-Marseille-University
INP, Institute of Neurophysiopathology, UMR CNRS 7051, Team 1, France.
Dr. Di Pasquale received a PhD in Neurobiology and Neurophysiology in 1994 from Aix-Marseille University. He was an associate researcher in Dr Jeff Noebels (MD, PhD) Lab, at the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Tx, from 1994 to 1996, where he mastered patch clamp techniques on visualized cortical neurons from transgenic epileptic mice. He was the recipient of a Philippe Foundation Postdoctoral fellowship. In 1996, he joined Aix-Marseille University as an assistant professor. In 2002, he quit Science on a three years sabbatical to create and manage a social employment structure for handicapped people in Aix-en-Provence at the request of the town hall. Back to Science in 2005, he developed artificial membrane models (Black lipid membranes) to study the lipid interactions with various types of proteins such as pathogens, or antibiotics ; and the implication of ion channel modifications in Parkinson’s disease-induced channelopathies. In 2010 he joined the CRN2M (School of Medicine, North District, Marseille) to run the enteric human tissue project since the gastro-intestinal tract could be involved in Parkinson’s Disease. In 2011 he was the first at patch clamp recording ex vivo human enteric neurons maintained in situ ; and licensed Enteropatch®, a technological platform dedicated to human enteric neurons and gut diseases. In 2012 he founded « MyEnterix » (a Contract Research Organization), a biotech company which provided the industry with taylor-made services to test lead compounds on the GI tract. In 2016 he was granted with an ERC (European project consolidator ; « Imbibe ») as a collaborator, to set with Prof. R. Owens (Cambridge) a « gut in the box » dedicated to understanding the implication of the microbiota on the activity of the enteric nervous system on freshly obtained human enteric tissue. This project was finally run in UK.
Recently, since the CRN2M Institute was closing and transfered to Timone hospital, Marseille, by December 2017, he reached the Institut of NeurophysioPathology (INP) Timone, in Dr Santiago Rivera’s team, to perform patch clamping of neurons in different Alzheimer Disease model mouse genotypes, and evaluate the role of a metalloprotease in AD. Dr Rivera and E.D. were already granted by the Alzheimer Disease french Foundation and Regional fundings to develop calcium imaging on altered cortical neurons.
