个人简介
Eon Soo Lee, PHD
Founding Director and Principal Investigator, Advanced Energy Systems and Microdevices Laboratory
Associate Professor with Tenure, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT)
Senior Member, National Academy of Inventors
Dr. Eon Soo Lee is an Associate Professor with Tenure in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and the Founding Director and Principal Investigator of Advanced Energy Systems and Microdevices Laboratory at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) since 2013. He is an elected Senior Member of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) since 2020, and was enlisted as Vanguard Leaders in Higher Education in New Jersey by NJBIZ in 2018. He has served on the Editorial Board of IEEE Journal of Translational Engineering in Health and Medicine (JTEHM) since 2020.
Dr. Lee’s energy nanomaterials research is focused on graphene-based, non-platinum group metal (non-PGM) catalysts to replace expensive materials for sustainable high-performance electrochemical energy systems such as batteries and fuel cells, and many other industrial applications. Principal research includes synthesizing a new set of graphene-based nanomaterials with metal-organic frameworks (MOF) and characterizing the high-performance graphene-based nanocatalysts, and understanding the fundamental mechanisms of the electrocatalytic reaction with oxygen reduction environments.
Dr. Lee’s microdevices research is concentrated on applying micro- and nanotechnology with nanomaterials for a point-of-care nano biochip to diagnose complex diseases in real-time right at the moment. The biochip is integrated with a microchannel that has a function with a self-separation mechanism of complex biofluid under self-driven flow, and nanomaterials on the nanoelectrode to sense the existence and the level of severity of a disease with high sensitivity and selectivity.
Dr. Lee's research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the New Jersey Health Foundation and a private company, Abonics, Inc. on top of the support from New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT); Also, Brookhaven National Laboratory - Center for Functional Nanomaterials provides a sustainable support through the high-end user facilities for optical & electron microscopy imaging, UV and X-ray probing, materials synthesis and characterization, and nanofabrication facilities. Dr. Lee has also worked in collaboration with and support from the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center, CUNY’s Advanced Science Research Center, Rutgers University and Montclair State University. We have obtained several patents for our technology innovations.
Dr. Lee and his research received many recognitions and awards, including Vanguard Higher Education Leaders (2018), NIH/IEEE-EMBS Best Design Award in HI-POCT 2017, Natioinal Innovation Award in TechConnect World Innovation 2017, Defense Innovation Award 2017 at Defense Innovation Acceleration Challenges, New Jersey Health Foundation Innovation Award 2017, and many media highlights including NJIT News Highlights, Innovation New Jersey, Clinical Lab Products Magazine.
Dr. Lee also won Samsung Technology Award (2011), one of the most prestigious award in Samsung, during his research (2007-2013) at Samsung as Principal Researcher and Project Group Leader after his PhD study at Stanford. Dr. Lee studied microscale materials and flow physics at Stanford University for PHD (2007) and MS (2004), both in Mechanical Engineering, after his BS (1999) in Mechanical Engineering at Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea. He also designed mega-scale mechanical systems at Hyundai Heavy Industries as a mechanical engineer after his undergraduate study.
