Bio
Dr Emmanuel Mwakiwa is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher in the Department of Agricultural Business Development and Economics in the Faculty of Agriculture, Environment and Food Systems at the University of Zimbabwe. He is a Research Director for Zimbabwe in the Africa Network of Agricultural Policy Research Institutes. Emmanuel has a PhD in Environment and Resource Economics from Wageningen University, Netherlands. Emmanuel’s PhD research work is titled “Cooperation or competition: Dilemma for resource managers in sustainable wildlife utilization.” In this work he analyzed the wildlife management interactions between public and private landowners for the Kruger National Park and surrounding landowners in South Africa. He was involved in the review of the Communal Areas Management Programme for Indigenous Resources (CAMPFIRE). Emmanuel has over 25 years comprehensive experience in development work in the following fields: wildlife management; natural resource management; communal resource management; climate change; agricultural value chain analyses; rural livelihoods; community resilience; food security; and rural development. He has researched and written extensively in these areas in Africa and has published over 30 publications in international journals. He has undertaken assignments in several African countries including Zimbabwe, South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia and the southern, central and western Africa regions.
