Career Trajectory
Bio
I have recently been working in a postdoctoral research associate position at the University of Manchester which involves the formation of conjugated polymer nanoparticle-antibody conjugates for a new novel biomedical imaging platform for immunohistochemistry for use as a medical diagnostic tool. The project works with both multidisciplinary academic and industry based collaborators and is funded by small business research initiative, SBRI. My role primarily involves surface modification and characterisation of these nanomaterials using UV/Vis, Fluorimetry, Dynamic Light Scattering, TEM and IR.
I have recently graduated from my PhD at the University of Leeds, Polyvalent Glycan – Quantum Dot Structural and Mechanistic Probes for Viral Receptors DC-SIGN and DC-SIGNR, which involves the production of functionalised nanoparticles to further understand the binding domains of the proteins DC-SIGN and DC-SIGNR. These are viral receptor glycan binding proteins that are involved in the infection of viruses such as HIV and Ebola. The skills I acquired during my PhD were across a variety of areas all from organic synthesis and compound characterisation, protein production and purification methods, in vitro physical chemistry protein binding assays based around flourimetry as well as nanoparticle characterisation methods.
